Tactical Combat Ruler

First up, a neat little widget for your 40k games and would also fit into others as well. The long edge has a 6 inch length with each inch marked out.

There is also a 1/2 inch, 1 inch and 3 inch widget sides as well which is super handy for measuring things like pile in for assaults and distances for being in combat. Very useful and it looks the business as well.

Wound Trackers

These rotatable counters will do the job for you and look awesome at the same time! Simple to put together and they just looks awesome! I do recommend hitting the number dial with some paint or an ink wash before using them though, just to see the numbers a bit better.

Review: Codex Space Marines

When I decided to get back into playing 40k, I knew that I wanted to get another Space Marine force up and running. Many moons ago, I had a heap of Space Marines. They'd originally been painted as Blood Angels, and then they became Ultramarines. I can't remember how they ended up, but they were awesome!

It's pretty fitting that the first new Codex we see from Games Workshop covers off the mighty warriors of the Adeptus Astartes.

So, let's get the nitty-gritty out of the way first. Ordering the book via GW here in New Zealand is gonna set you back $99 but if you head on over to our good mates at Mighty Ape, they'll hook you up for just $85. Pretty sweet deal, if you ask me!

The book itself is gorgeous. If you remember some of the old codexes from GW, they were very much to look at. This thing is amazing. It's glossy and the pictures are really vivid, which really helps with painting. It clocks in a 208 pages which in itself is huge, but you don't actually get to any of the lists or force information until you're 130 pages in. That's right, the first 129 pages are all fluff, pictures and more awesome story stuff! It's a great read!

There is information on individual chapters in here as well. The following chapters are covered off, each with their own characters and history in the book.

Ultramarines: The Sons of Guilliman are well represented with information and the chronicles of Ultramar held here.

White Scars: The savage followers of Jaghatai Khan feature here which is awesome to see!

Imperial Fists: The holders of the Legacy of Dorn.

Crimson Fists: Successors of the mighty Imperial Fists.

Black Templars: Devotees of the Emperor.

Salamanders: Fire and blood, the Sons of Vulkan.

Raven Guard: The stealth masters.

Iron Hands: The mechanical Marines.

Conspicuously missing are the Blood Angels, Space Wolves, Dark Angels and Deathwatch which can only lead me to surmise that they'll be getting their own tomes at some point in the near future.

Next up, we have the details of the weaponry and the troop types at the disposal of the Space Marines in these times, including the new Primaris developments such as the Intercessors, Inceptors and Hellblasters.

Characters for each of the Chapters listed are also included for you to field in your force. Famous names such a Marneus Calgar, Captain Lysander and High Marshal Helbrecht all have their own data sheets here for you.

From there, pretty much every Marine unit and weapon ever created has its own datasheet, filled with info on how you can take them in your force. The power levels are all included here as well. Tables for point values are listed in the back of the book.

Also included are new Chapter Tactics abilities for you to use in your forces. These are special abilities that only units with the <CHAPTER> keyword can use, for example, the Ultramarines have "Codex Discipline" which allows them to add 1 to their Leadership value and also allows them to fire after they've fallen back but at a -1 to hit. Pretty cool little ability there!

There are also new Stratagems, Warlord Traits and also new Chapter Relics which you can use in your force as well.





The Codex Space Marines is a must-have for any Marine player in my opinion. While you can still carry on using the Index: Imperium I, this book just gives you access to so much more strategic choice and also the extra fluff is awesome!

This is a kit I've been wanting to get my hands on for some time and now, I finally have it! It's definitely taking pride of place in my terrain collection! I love it so much, I even filmed a video review to accompany these words!

The Battlekiwi Church IS A MONSTER on the table! It takes up some serious real estate when it's placed down.

The parts of the tower and the roof are all removable allowing for troop access to the inner sanctum...

The laser-cut detail is really nice as well meaning that you don't actually need to paint this one if you dont want to.

Review: Kreative Scenery's Low Adobe Walls

So what goes well with a Large Adobe House? Adobe Walls, that's what! 

Now you already get a few with your large house, but if you're anything like me and quite enjoy hiding your infantry behind bulletproof cover then you're going to want some more walls. So, Kreative Scenery have your infantry cover needs....well....covered....!

Your new adobe wall set gives you four long straight sections and four small straight sections which you can use in a heap of different ways and combinations.

And you can use as many or as few as you like to get some really good looking linear obstacles for your 15mm battlefields.

And you know what, they'll even hide your big cats if you want them to!

Once again, we've been set the painted versions of the walls and the detail and paint job really is great! I've taken a couple of close-ups here just so you can see the detail.

Review: Kreative Scenery's Large Adobe House

In the latest review of the kit sent in the care package from Kreative Scenery, I take a look at the Large Adobe House set.

This is a big package and that's because you are getting a heap of stuff in the pack including:

- 4 adobe walls
- the adobe building ground floor
- the building second floor, and
- flat roofs for both

We were also luck enough to get the optional extra roof as well (thanks Kim!)

Once again, we've gotten the pre-painted version here but you can order this unpainted if you want to have a different colour scheme. Everything fits together really nicely and cleanly.

This shows the optional Italian roof added but you don't have to add it and the kit will still look the business.

You can also just have a single story version if you like.

By adding the included walls to the kit, you can get a really nice looking terrain piece on your Italian or African-themed table.

And they hide Tigers quite nicely!

The house itself can comfortably fit 3 infantry stands inside and a couple on the roof if you don't use the sloped one.

Review: Kreative Scenery's 15mm Low Stone Walls

And I thought Christmas was over! Kim from Kreative Scenery has sent us a care package today with some awesome terrain to use and review and I've gotta tell you, upon opening the box and taking a peek, I knew I was in for a treat!

Kreative Scenery (www.kreativescenery.co.nz) are a Kiwi company specialising in 15mm and 28mm Hydrocal terrain and can supply these to you either painted or unpainted depending on your needs.

In this review, I'll be having a play with the Low Stone Wall set. 

The set consists of two small and one large right-angled sections and three straight wall sections. 

We've been lucky enough to get a painted set so we can get the review straight to you! Thanks Kim! The paint job here is great and will fit this terrain into pretty much any table you could think of!

And of course I had to have a little bit of a play with my own toys, right?

The Hydrocal (which is a type of plaster from what I understand) is sturdy enough to take some knocks and hold up well which is exactly what you want from gaming terrain! It's gonna take some bumps...right?!

Review: Alpha City Buildings from Battle Kiwi

And in the last of our reviews of the stuff the good dudes at Battle Kiwi sent us, we take a look at a couple of pieces from their Alpha City range of Sci-Fi 28mm terrain. We've got the Alpha 1-R building and a Disposal Unit on the table to take as look at.

The Alpha City range has a combination of laser cut MDF and acrylic parts which is very easy to put together and get on to your gaming table in a short time. All the pieces have a similar look and feel to them and I reckon they'd be perfect for the likes of Necromunda, TNT and Infinity.

I started with the Alpha 1-R building.

One thing they tell you to do in the instructions, which are pretty damned good I might add, is to dry fit everything before hand and I wholly support this action! Nothing worse than getting your glue on there only to realise that you have to make some slight adjustments!

In saying that, the Alpha 1-R (which has the staircase on the right) is a dream to put together. You'll need a little force to get the walls in place but this thing is sturdy as hell so will take the punishment! Its very intuitive in the way that it fits together so even n00bs like me cant mess this one up!

Here's the finished product...

The coloured acrylic insets in the windows and doors really make this stand out...and they're not just for decoration! There is a heap of roof space for you to get your minis on as well.

Oh yeah, and you see that little widget off to the right. You get that in the pack as well! And what's it for, I can already hear you asking. Well, remember those coloured insets...

Yep! IT LIGHTS UP!!! How freaking sweet is that?!! There are 3 settings on the light. White, red and flashing red. Awesome!


The last kit is the Disposal Unit. This is a smaller kit, but by no means less awesome. Again, dry fitting here is a must to make sure everything is square and lines up.

A great little addition to any table and this is going to provide you some sweet, sweet cover. Oh, and of course its functional!
